It converts audio at 24-bit up to 96 kHz and connects to iPhone, iPad, Mac and PC. See recording gear in our Warsaw showroom.

An XLR microphone with a phone or a laptop

A studio microphone needs a preamp, phantom power and a converter, and in the field nobody wants to carry an interface. The iRig Pre HD has a balanced XLR input, a 40 dB gain range and +48 V phantom power (for which the two AA batteries in the box are needed). The response is 20 Hz to 20 kHz +/- 1.5 dB and the input noise is -97 dB RMS (-105 dB(A)). The microphone input level spans 6 mVpp to 1.4 Vpp at 2 kOhm impedance.

Monitoring and portability

The 3.5 mm TRS headphone output with a level wheel gives 100 mW into 50 ohms. The micro-USB socket connects to the device with the Lightning, USB-A or USB-C cable from the box, and with a computer it takes power from the USB bus. The unit measures 40 x 110 x 34 mm and weighs 75 g without batteries, and a Velcro strip is included for mounting.

KEY FEATURES

Microphone preamp with an XLR input and +48 V phantom power

24-bit up to 96 kHz, 40 dB gain range

3.5 mm TRS headphone output with level control

iPhone, iPad, Mac and PC, Lightning, USB-A and USB-C cables included

Compact body 40 x 110 x 34 mm, 75 g

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Microphone input: balanced XLR, 6 mVpp to 1.4 Vpp, 2 kOhm impedance

Gain: 40 dB, phantom: +48 V +/- 4 V

Frequency response: 20 Hz to 20 kHz +/- 1.5 dB, input noise: -97 dB RMS, -105 dB(A)

Headphone output: 1/8 in TRS, 100 mW into 50 ohms

Connector: micro-USB

Conversion: 24-bit A/D and D/A, 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96 kHz

Power: USB bus power from a computer, 2 x AA batteries (included) needed only for +48 V phantom

Dimensions: 40 x 110 x 34 mm / 1.57 x 4.33 x 1.34 in, weight: 75 g (without batteries), cable 60 cm

Compatibility: iPhone and iPad, Mac (macOS 10.6 or later), Windows (iRig driver for low latency), Android 5 or later with USB audio (OTG cable sold separately)

Package: iRig Pre HD, Lightning to micro-USB cable, USB-A to micro-USB cable, USB-C to micro-USB cable, 2 x AA battery, Velcro strip
