It adds a Word Clock input to the card together with synchronization to LTC time code and video, and SteadyClock extracts a clean, low-jitter clock from them. The module works with the HDSPe AIO Pro, RayDAT, AES and MADI cards. See RME cards in our Warsaw showroom.

Locking to picture without drift

When you work to picture or chase a timecode-based recorder, one thing usually breaks: the DAW and the material slide apart after a few minutes. The TCO reads LTC at 24, 25, 30 and 29.97 frames, drop-frame or non-drop, as well as PAL and NTSC video, derives the sample clock from them and holds the card sample-accurate. Common Pull-Up and Pull-Down formats (+/- 0.1% and +/- 4%) are supported. The SMPTE position reaches your software as ASIO Positioning Protocol or MTC on Windows and as MTC on macOS. Your software can also send APP or MTC to the module, which generates LTC in hardware with no driver routine in the way.

One module, several cards, simple setup

The TCO sits in a free slot of the computer chassis and connects to the card with a flat ribbon cable. A single module serves several HDSP and HDSPe cards in multicard use when it is connected to a supported card. The sync source (LTC, video or Word Clock), the 75 ohm termination of the BNC input and the frame rate are set on an extra page of the card settings dialog that appears once the module is installed. The module offers LTC and Word Clock inputs and LTC and Word Clock outputs on BNC connectors. It does not work with the HDSPe MADI FX or the MADIface.

KEY FEATURES

Synchronization to LTC and video, plus a Word Clock input

SteadyClock: low-jitter clock from LTC and video

24, 25, 30 and 29.97 frame rates, drop-frame and non-drop, Pull-Up and Pull-Down

SMPTE position as APP and MTC on Windows, MTC on macOS

Hardware LTC generation, LTC and Word Clock outputs on BNC

Several cards served in multicard use

Setup in the HDSPe card settings dialog

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Works with: HDSPe AIO Pro, HDSPe RayDAT, HDSPe AES, HDSPe MADI (not HDSPe MADI FX or MADIface)

LTC input: BNC, unbalanced, level range -25 dBu to +12 dBu

Video input: BNC, switchable 75 ohm termination, PAL and NTSC

Word Clock input: BNC, switchable 75 ohm termination, galvanically isolated, 1.0 to 5.6 Vpp, lock range 28 to 200 kHz

Jitter when synced: below 1 ns, jitter suppression above 30 dB (2.4 kHz)

LTC output: BNC, +4 dBu (-7 dBu via jumper), 220 ohm impedance

Word Clock output: BNC, max 5 Vpp (4.0 Vpp into 75 ohm), 10 ohm impedance, 28 to 52 kHz

Power: 5 V DC, 100 mA, via ribbon cable

Mounting: standard slot bracket, PCB dimensions 98 x 75 mm
