Designed from scratch, not improved. The PMC 6 is PMC's new generation of compact reference monitors — with a bespoke 6-inch driver, next-generation ATL and Laminair technology, onboard DSP, and browser-based SoundAlign calibration. The same sonic signature as PMC's larger monitors, in a nearfield form factor for small and medium control rooms.

Overview

The PMC 6 is the direct successor to the twotwo series — but not an evolution, a ground-up redesign. The new LF driver has 20 mm of linear excursion and was engineered specifically to work with the latest generation of ATL and Laminair. The result is straightforward: within this cabinet size, the PMC 6 achieves bass extension that most 8-inch monitors can't match.

The onboard DSP handles the crossover, automatically adjusts the response based on monitor orientation — portrait or landscape — and gives full parameter access through any web browser via SoundAlign. This isn't DSP for correction — it's a tool for precise integration of the monitor into the room and the system.

The PMC 6 is used in major studios as a nearfield and as height and surround channels in Dolby Atmos and multichannel systems. There's no budget variant — one PMC 6, built for one purpose: a reliable reference point.

Key Features

Bespoke LF driver with 20 mm excursion
A 6-inch driver engineered from the ground up by PMC, with 20 mm of linear cone travel. It handles SPL levels and transient demands that cause distortion in most drivers of this size. Combined with ATL and Laminair, it outperforms most 8-inch monitors in bass extension and control.

ATL + Laminair — latest generation
ATL has been in PMC since the beginning, but the PMC 6 uses its most current implementation. Laminair — the transmission line outlet designed on aerodynamic principles from motorsport (F1, Le Mans) — eliminates air turbulence at the port. The result: faster, cleaner bass with no colouration and no air noise.

Adaptive DSP crossover — portrait and landscape
The DSP automatically detects monitor orientation and corrects the crossover, phase response, and stereo imaging accordingly. You can lay the monitor horizontally on a meterbridge without any loss of accuracy — a rare capability at this level.

SoundAlign — browser-based calibration
Every PMC 6 has a built-in web server. Calibrate via any browser on a computer, tablet, or phone — over LAN. Parameters include EQ, boundary compensation, delay, phase, and user presets. Entire multichannel systems can be calibrated from one interface, with monitors grouped and controlled together.

Analogue and AES3 digital input
The single input switches between analogue XLR and digital AES3 (16/24-bit, 18–192 kHz). The AES3 digital "through" output allows the monitor to be daisy-chained to a PMC 8 SUB in an XBD configuration.

XBD: scalable monitoring system

The PMC 6 can be expanded by adding a PMC 8 SUB, creating a PMC 6 XBD system. This isn't a conventional subwoofer add-on with an external crossover.

Once the PMC 8 SUB is connected via AES3 and XBD mode is activated in the DSP, both units operate as a single integrated monitor — with one shared calibration profile, one DSP-managed crossover, and one combined view in SoundAlign. Bass extends from 39 Hz down to 25 Hz, the PMC 6's mid-bass driver is relieved of the lowest frequencies, gaining headroom and cleaning up the midrange. The outcome: midfield monitor dynamics and extension in a nearfield footprint — without rebuilding the room.
