Elektron has released the long-awaited software update for its hybrid drum machine – the Elektron Syntakt. OS version 1.3 brings four new machines and an Euclidean sequencer mode, along with a series of workflow improvements and bug fixes.
New Machines in Syntakt OS 1.3
In the latest update, we find four entirely new machines:
- SY Chip
- BD Acoustic
- SD Acoustic
- HH Lab
Additionally, the BD Sharp machine has received a new analog square wave, which enhances sound design capabilities for creating percussion sounds.
Euclidean Sequencer
A highly anticipated feature is the Euclidean sequencer, available on the second trig parameters page. This allows for the creation of more complex rhythms and custom sequences based on mathematical divisions. It’s a fantastic tool for rhythmic experimentation and enriching compositions.
Workflow Improvements
The update also brings several features that facilitate daily work with the device. Now you can:
- Save sounds directly from a selected trig while retaining all parameter locks.
- Quickly identify which parameter pages have locks assigned, significantly speeding up workflow during creation.
- Utilize a new slew parameter for random LFO waves.
- Select sequencer pages faster in grid recording mode.
- Generate random names for sounds and patterns.
Additionally, the update allows for looping selected pattern pages, opening up new arrangement possibilities.
Elektron Syntakt – More than a Drum Machine
The Elektron Syntakt is not just a drum machine – it's a hybrid groovebox that enables the creation of both rhythms and bass and synthesizer parts. The device offers 8 digital tracks with various sound generators and 3 analog percussion tracks that can be freely modified. Integrated effects such as delay, reverb, and distortion, along with a 64-step sequencer on each track, make the Elektron Syntakt an incredibly versatile tool for electronic music production.
What’s Next?
The OS 1.3 update for the Elektron Syntakt is now available on the manufacturer’s website. Elektron typically releases updates for several devices simultaneously, so we might soon see new features for other machines in the Elektron family.
This update is another step in enhancing the powerful capabilities of the Elektron Syntakt, making it an even more versatile tool for producers and musicians. It’s worth downloading and testing the new features, especially if experimenting with rhythms and sounds is an important part of your creative process.
